Youth Mental Health First Aid

Youth Mental Health First Aid teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental health
and substance use challenges among children and adolescents ages 6-18.



The Maryland Department of Health's Office of Suicide Prevention in partnership with Echo Resource Development, INC is offering 3 FREE virtual* Youth MHFA courses to Maryland residents.


September 12 and 14, 2023 11:00am-2:30pm EST

October 10 and 12, 2023 11:00am-2:30pm EST

October 24 and 26, 2023 9:00am-12:00pm EST


*Participants must complete 2-hours of self-paced online rework before

 attending one of the two part instructor-led sessions listed above.

What the course covers:

  • Common signs and symptoms of mental health challenges in this age group, including anxiety, depression, eating disorders and attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD).
  • Common signs and symptoms of substance use challenges.
  • How to interact with a child or adolescent in crisis.
  • How to connect youth with help.
  • Expanded content on trauma, substance use, self-care and the impact of social media and bullying.
